Patience

We’re working on some major changes on the site so if it looks odd that’s why. If it’s looking good it means we’ve finished. If there’s nothing here at all or a bunch of error messages it means something major has gone wrong. If that is the case we will almost certainly be in the pub if you want to join us.

It’s Nice That *6

This has been out for a fair few weeks now but i’ve only just got through it. It may well be the best issue so far, the highlight is an interview with the legendary US adman/art director who is quoted as saying “I believe people should talk truth to power, that we shouldn’t take any crap from our leaders”. People should truth to power – great line.

Issue 6 info here

They’re now doing a nifty subs offer which saves you a tin of money and, as always for subscribers, you get some kind of a nifty screenprint present with each issue – info here

Coming soon…

Issue 14 of our Hoarder magazine is due anytime now. A collection of clip art images I found in an old folder, lodged at the bottom of a box of random stuff in the loft. Here’s the intro text to get you in the mood…

I wish I could say that all the stuff I collect is filed neatly in boxes. All clearly labelled for instant access. When I say instant access I’m not talking about having GigaBytes of content available with a click and point, I’m talking about instant access in terms of getting a ladder from the shed, finding a torch and getting up in the loft but at least being able to half guess at the contents of particular boxes. Stuff’s not always filed neatly but I quite enjoy coming across a random, “unamed” box full of stuff that did’t fit anywhere else.

Nestled at the bottom of one such box was a yellow card folder full of copies of black and white clip art. These were generic illustrations and graphic elements created for use by printers and jobbing studios to “clip” out and paste into artwork – primarily on cheap ads, flyers and menus. Jobs with no budget for commissioning illustrations.

The following pages show a bunch of images i have photocopied from sheets and books whenever I have come across them. I’ve also bulked this issue out with some images from books i’ve collected which feature the same sort of stuff, most notably the dover clip art series & the daddy of all found illustration/clip art projects, the very fantastic ‘Crap Hound’.

Enjoy.

More, More Catalogues

More Catalogues

Hoarder 6 introduced our obsession with clothing catalogues (refresh your memory here) and here’s a bunch more that have been piling up on the end of the desk.

Tell me…

…it’s not wrong to be excited about this.

Coming soon from the always-spot on-publishing house Fuel.

Fingers Crossed…

Forthcoming from the House of Superflake…

SFlake 022 will be issue 10 of Hoarder  based on a bunch of old motorsports magazines.

SFlake 023 will be Hoarder 11 built around images from fashion trend books

SFlake 024 will be issue 7 of our increasingly mediocre zine Shrapnel

SFlake 025 will be Hoarder 12 – our second volume of stickers

SFlake 026 will be Hoarder 13 – vol 2 of our hang tag collection

We are also toying with the resserection of the Ferret Youth soundtrack project, and a recently abandoned collage zine. We have a few sets of badges left and a few printed issues of early Hoarder and Shrapnel zines still lying around – we need to get rid of these so mail mark@houseofsuperflake.com and we’ll get them out to you free of charge – first come, first served basis, git yourself a piece of history NOW. When they is gone, they is gone.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out our newest blog, the tribute to delinquency and fashion that is subbaculture.co.uk. Click here to get there now.
