hoarder 5 additions
a recent bout of tidying up at the house of superflake has boosted our hoarder magazine activity. we’ve been frantically photographing all manner of cultural debris in our studio (thats the kitchen table) and as mentioned are set to release a stunted/online version of hoarder 6 v soon – a stunning tribute to the world of clothing catalogues. while we’re at it we’ve also dug out some additional visual delights for fans of our sticker, hang tags and vintage mens mag issues from the past.
these will all be up in the next few days – stay tuned. check out additions to hoarder 5 (stickers) here
hoarder 6…straight to video?
as mentioned previously the local print guy who was copying up our quality publications (in tiny runs) no longer exists and we’re struggling to find someone else with a wonky calculator to supply colour copies for peanuts. apologies to all hoarder/graphics/print fans out there – if this isn’t rectified in the next week or so we’re just gonna bang hoarder 6 up online. its not ideal as this project is all about the touch, feel and portability of hand held, printed stuff but hey ho – rest assured however we will not be offering a souless “downloadable pdf” just some blurry jpgs and as soon as we get a copyshop sorted we’ll be back in collatin’, foldin’, staplin’ business.
hoarder magazine…archived
as we’ve now sold out of issues 4 & 5 of our hoarder publication we’ve decided to archive them away so slackers who missed them first time around don’t miss out.

Foxtrot Echo Lima Tango

After writing pages of pages on one of our favourite bands ever here’s our brief factual introduction to the world of lawrence and felt. Written in part to alert you to a new fanzine Foxtrot Echo Lima Tango dedicated to the band. Felt fans will know there’s more myth and magic connected with the band than most and this zine at last starts to unravel the story with interviews and recollections from ex band members and fans alike.

Pretty good archive/fan site for felt here
Superflake Custom Graphics introduction to the band is…
The two words enigmatic and birmingham rarely appear in the same sentence – when they do you’ll almost certainly be dealing with the pop group Felt.
Formed in 1979 in the birmingham suburb of water orton by lawrence hayward the band continued to release the most sublime ind individual sounding records of the 80’s, to (at the time) sparse critical acclaim and even sparser sales. They are one of my favourite groups of all time.
The first records i heard were from the tail end of the first (second, i guess, if you count the first 7″ Index recorded and released by Lawrence from his water orton bedroom as the first) version of the group. This period was hallmarked by the inclusion of classically trained guitarist maurice deebank and saw Felt release a handful of albums via cherry red unlike anything else from that time.
When Deebank upped and left (swapping birmingham for barcelona) Felt moved to creation records, added a young keyboardist martin duffy to their line up and began a run of releases that remain amongst my favourite records ever recorded.
Lawrence wound the band up at the end of the 80’s revealing it had been the plan all along to exist for 10 years and release 10 albums. I attended Felts final show at burberries in birmingham and like lawrences wonderful, singular vision for the group and the records they released it was perfect.
Hoarder 6 / Sflake 018
With the imminent release of hoarder 6 our catalogue numbers edge ever nearer the 20 mark. This would indeed be the cause for some celebration but the truth is that most of those have been assigned to uncompleted projects and ideas yet to see the day. We’re gonna make a massive attempt to rectify this over the next few weeks and tidy up unfinished business – then we can concentrate on the projects that we didnt even get round to giving a catalogue number to. Check out the spreads from our clothing catalogue Hoarder special above – the finished articles are being printed (not quite), folded (not until they’ve been printed) and stapled (not until they’ve been…you get the idea). SFLAKE 018 hits SOON okay ?
All Hail Rammellzee

Zero Activity Record !
We’re pretty lazy as a rule but this last month has broken all records – no posts for a month, incredible! we have however been listening to a new mf doom record, loads of 60’s garage comps (still!), new ghostbox vinyls (more soon), more freebie wonderfulness from moon wiring club, gil scott heron, public enemy, stanicpornocultshop, black to comm, viking moses.
currently looking for cheap (we mean cheap) colour laser printing in downtown LA (leicester area) as Hoarder 6 is nearly ready. Mid year resolutions: smoke less, post more
last one standing
thought these had all gone but was surprised to find one today in a case with an old external hard drive. it will come as no surprise that the new issue of hoarder is still….on the way. also, and this really is unbelievable, a big 6 pages are now complete for the fanzine promised for the end of last year. at this rate a release date of 2016 is on the cards. ah well you can’t rush these things. current sounds to file under YES! are: bonnie ‘prince’ billy – wonder show of the world, pocahaunted – make it real, the viking moses – the parts that showed, new coco rosie record, gil scott heron – free will, smiths debut album, various fall stuff, inca ore record, sun araw stuff, and loads of cheap funk and northern soul comps.
current re-reading: victor bokris warhol biog, tom wolfe paint house gang, tons of love and rockets comics (awesome), rick poyners designing pornotopia
